This is an amazing 19th-century Kazak rug, woven by nomads in the Caucasus Mountains, between the Black and Caspian Seas. The geometric pattern within the main field features tribal motifs, including the s-hook, a symbol of protection against the evil eye. Nice wide border band ties it all together wonderfully.
Its softened patina has mellowed the once bold hues into a pleasant, cheery palette of pastels, making it feel warm and welcoming. Which is no surprise that in its past life, it was hung on the wall as a tapestry. With its low pile and floppy handle, this small rug has an easy, relaxed drape, giving it that well-loved feel that will fit right into most decors. A beautiful piece of nomadic craftsmanship, this wool has aged beautifully, retaining its character while becoming even softer underfoot.
Will ship with a pad on the house to keep this little gem nice and snug.
