This is an antique Soumak that is a century old and offers oh so much! It features medallions and motifs throughout. It was made with enormous love and has immense history and beautiful art work.
The guard border features hook and scroll design. This is an old tribal, flat weave rug from the Caucasus mountains and the lovely rug lends itself well to the detailed weft-wrapped weaving technique known as Soumak. It is hand woven with wool on wool foundation. The wool dyes come from all natural sources such as vegetables, plants, flowers and roots. You can see the true character with the dye batch changes on the field color that lends itself to the amazing character of this antique rug.
It is highly decorative and meaningful with immense history, art and culture that would be a statement piece in the home.
