This is a tribal Persian from the south of the country, featuring a field of paisleys (representing seeds of life) throughout. Based on the weave on the underside, this type of rug most likely comes from Shiraz, which happens to be home of the world famous Qashqai tribe. Rugs such as these were woven by weavers on fixed looms and they often have more coarse knots. They were woven by home weavers and in the old days, they were taken to the bazaar to be sold, where they were then exported.
This Persian is in good condition, with a low wool pile on a wool foundation. It has a bit of a finer weave than most rugs from this region. It has earthy and muddy color ways and is super clean. Please note: It has some minor areas that have been given some love from wear that comes from age. It is fully intact and ready to go.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool circa 1880-1900.
