From the region of Caucasus (North of Persia), this antique vegetable dyed wool Kazak rug embodies great style and design with amazing tribal art including boteh design throughout the field. A beautifully aged runner, this worn piece was woven circa 1900 from the tribal weavers of the Caucasus mountains located north of Persia.
Kazak rugs are mountain rugs of the Caucasus region and are collectibles, rare and known to be most sought after. These hand knotted rugs are sophisticated antique carpets that come from expert dyers and weavers.
These nomads included in their work of art many elements throughout the rug that has great symbolism as well as symmetry. You can see the animal elements woven as well in the runner. The border has a gorgeous ivory ground with tribal motifs set against it, which has great contrast and beauty in art and form.
This Kazak is 100% wool, with all natural dyes that are derived from fruits, vegetable, insects and flowers. It has a wonderful, floppy handle.
