Vintage Heavy Duty Rug Runner / 4' x 10'5 Persian Bidjar Runner #3778

Regular price $2,900.00

When it comes to Persian rugs, there’s nothing woven tougher and crafted to last than a Bidjar. Known as the iron rugs of Persia, these pieces are built for endurance, with densely packed knots and wool that’s been pounded down into an unshakable foundation. This one, from the 1920s, carries that legendary weight—literally. A heavy-duty runner with presence, structure, and the kind of durability that can take on generations of use.

The field is a striking red-rust ground, alive with the Herati (or fish) design, an ancient motif symbolizing protection and good fortune. The ivory-ground border frames it all beautifully, decorated with intricate motifs, including turtles—symbols of longevity and resilience.

While scanning the rug, you'll notice the waviness in the edge guards of the field. And that the runner, it's not perfectly straight, with a gentle bow through the middle and a bit of waviness along the edges, a reminder that no machine could ever craft something this soulful. That’s the unmistakable mark of an old handwoven rug, a testament to the artisan’s touch and the human element in every knot.

With its rich, vegetable-dyed wool and dense, unyielding construction, this Bidjar runner is more than just a rug—it’s a powerhouse. A woven masterpiece that doesn’t just survive the years but thrives through them.
