This is an early 1900s Turkmen aka Turkoman rug with the classic ground color and characteristics these famous old rugs are known for. It was hand knotted by the nomadic tribe almost entirely with locally obtained materials, wool from the herds and vegetable dyes, or other natural dyes from the region. The slight changes in dye colors that you see are from different batches of their dyed wool they used to weave. It is a very beautiful thing called "Abrash". Those elements in the field you see are pointed to as elephant footprints. The wool is soft to the touch and has a wool foundation. It folds up like a blankie almost!
A great deal for a fun and old world rug that can be styled anywhere!
It is low pile and in good condition for its age, parallel to time and history.
