Inspired by their environment, the nomadic peoples of the Caucasus Mountains handwove this little scatter rug over a hundred years ago, circa 1880-1900. An S-hook like motif in a linear pattern of various colors that have muted over time takes center stage, a symbol of protection against the ill will of others. The border bands contain a graphic geometric pattern and chicken feet like motifs in an array of earthy colors, that also have been known to be a symbol of protection. These tribal designs convey a sense of history and soul, a glimpse into the minds and hearts of the weavers themselves.
This shabby chic scatter rug was handwoven with all natural vegetable dyed wool on a wool foundation, giving it a floppy handle. It is ancient and love worn, on account of its many travels and experiences, which means its not meant for a high traffic area. This beauty will ground a space with immense spirit, charm, and cultural history. Will ship with a pad on the house to keep this little gem nice and snug.
