Originating from the southern region of the Caucasus Mountains, this antique 1880’s Karabagh rug with its square shape is a rare find. The main field consists of an all-over Herati or fish design, which symbolizes good luck, in a beige and hazelnut brown color against a lovely dusty, berry ground. The border has a whimsical rose motif against a dark brown ground that charms us.
Handwoven with wool dyed from natural resources, such as vegetables, flowers, and roots, the patina of the colors in this beautiful rug have aged wonderfully.
This beauty is quite worn and has a soft wool foundation. Some areas have been repaired and is ready for its next chapter in a space in need of warmth and character. Not for a high traffic area. If you love the shabby chic look and want an authentic and soulful rug that breaths great age and character, you've found a little gem that does her part. Her shape being square is also quite rare as old rugs are seldom woven this way.
Collectors will appreciate the uniqueness, beauty, and great quality of this fantastic rug. We’ll send this with a custom cut rug pad to keep it wiggle free.
