This wonderful antique Turkoman prayer rug is the first in our collection! The Mihrab inspired design woven was meant to be directed toward Mecca during prayer. The bold graphic design in buttermilk cream, midnight blue, and orange red against a brick red ground, impels devotion and faith. The pinwheels of life in orange red and midnight blue on chestnut brown ground is charming. This lovely rug was likely owned by one individual that carried it with him or her daily.
Circa 1900, this sacred wool rug was woven by the Turkoman tribe with a wool foundation and dyed with organic vegetable dyes. The wool is very soft and has a floppy handle with a lovely raw, wool foundation. Please note, due to the hand woven nature, the width of this prayer rug has some differentiation of a few inches.
It is love-worn from countless hours of prayer and carries with it a spiritual soul.
