This antique, nomadic rug hails to us from the tribal weavers of the Caucasus Mountains, north of Persia. This distressed rug woven with all natural vegetable dyed wool is known as a Lenkoran Caucasian. It has an aged patina and wonderful symbolic folk art. You'll see in the main field two large crab motifs and ram horn motifs in the field. There are also scorpion motifs, all meaningful to the weavers of the past era. This piece comes from the 19th Century and is low pile and worn, with wear and tear related to its history and use. It can be used on the floor in a low traffic area or hung as an exceptional work of art for the wall.
