This antique Persian Shiraz rug has a cool, earthy vibe that feels grounded and real. The size, it feels square. This tribal rug is handwoven from 100% wool, both the pile and the foundation, dyed with plants, veggies, and flowers. You get these deep, muddy tones that cozy and lived-in feel with its character that has been earned over a century of life.
At the center, there are these bold three-poled medallions on a dark blue base, surrounded by little animal motifs, some inside the medallions, others surrounding them in different colors. They’re playful without being loud. A repeating zigzag pattern runs along the edges, kind of like the raked lines in a Zen Garden, quiet and balanced. Then you’ve got the main border, filled with tribal shapes that stand out in buttery yellows and deep blues over a warm sienna background.
It’s worn in all the right ways and has aged dyes and a subdued palette. The wear gives it character, like it’s already lived a good life and still has more to go.
