From the region of Caucasus, this antique 1880s vegetable dyed wool Shirvan rug embodies great style, geometric and bold design, and richness in color that are traditional features of these rugs. Shirvan is located just to the south of the Caucasus mountain and these rugs are the most rare and most sought after, and are the most finely knotted and sophisticated antique carpets of the Caucaus region, coming from expert dyers and weavers.
These nomads included in their work of art many elements throughout the rug that has great symbolism as well as symmetry. Though the rug has basic primitive geometric form, these Shirvan rugs display impressive balance and symmetry in their weavings, and these pieces from indigenous people are quite sophisticated, making them highly valued collectible pieces.
This rug is handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, and is low pile and love worn.
This will ship with a custom cut rug pad on the house.
