This beautifully aged and love worn Kazak is an excellent example of tribal artistry, dating back to circa 1900 from the weavers of the Caucasus mountains. It's a soulful piece of history for those who cherish authenticity and old-world charm and those who love the shabby chic look. Lovingly handwoven with vegetable-dyed wool and on a wool foundation which gives it a lovely floppy handle, it has an earthy palette showcasing mellowed hues of red to rustic cantaloupe, antiqued ivory, saffron orange, and mossy green-teal, all framed by a striking geometric border.
The central design features stepped diamond medallions in a tribal style, symbolizing protection and continuity. Surrounding the medallions are smaller geometric motifs, each contributing to the overall story woven into this rug. Its handmade nature lends it a characterful imperfection—notice how it isn’t perfectly straight, a testament to the weaving practices of a bygone era.
Time has softened its fibers and this low pile beauty has seen a lot of life, so please see pics for full character and condition. The wear across the surface, particularly in the pile, tells a tale of generations who lived alongside this piece, perhaps in a home filled with stories of their own. This Kazak will continue to serve and we'll send a custom cut rug pad on the house to keep it nice and snug. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool.
