Many centuries ago, almost all Turkmen rugs were produced by nomadic tribes almost entirely with locally obtained materials, wool from the herds and natural, vegetable dyes from their land.
The most famous tribes that produced these tribal rugs are Yomut, Ersari and Teke. The pattern you see are very common amongst these woven rugs. The octagonal elements throughout the field are known as elephant track motifs.
It was hand knotted by the nomadic tribe with natural resources used to dye the wool (veggies, fruits, plants, flowers). Low pile and still soft.
Rug is in good condition and has one small patch, please see pics. We'll send a rug pad, custom cut, on the house.
