This antique Shirvan scatter rug is from the Caucasus mountain weavers, north of Persia, woven by the tribe members circa 1880. It features green, which is a natural dye color we see less of in old rugs. This little treasure has a lot of personality and expression with tribal motifs and vibrant natural dyes in the border, while the field of the rug on a dusty navy blue ground has diamond lattice art showcasing the 8 pointed star within, which has many deep meanings that span across different cultures.
While this antique scatter rug is low pile and worn, it is fully intact and has all ends secured. It's design is a powerful depiction of folk art with great symbolism throughout the piece.
Handwoven with wool dyed using organic vegetables, plants, and flowers.
