Step back in time with this exquisite antique 1900s Persian bag face from the Afshar tribe. Crafted with precision and skill, this tribal piece tells the story of a past time, with its lovely geometric botanical pattern woven in warm tones of red, ivory, and dark blue on a navy blue ground. The main border band features the iconic Boteh motif, also known as the paisley motif, adding a touch of tradition to this unique piece.
Made to last, this heavy duty piece was woven with vegetable dyed wool, ensuring its durability and longevity. As a saddle bag, it has seen many adventures and its wonderful details speak of a past life, with top and bottom finishes and intricate details in the weave.
Originally, this bag face was a saddle bag that was used by tribal members on their livestock (typically camels, but also donkeys and horses) to hold, carry, and transport their goods. Typically, there would be two pouches bridged by a middle section that would sit on the back of the camel. For older pieces such as this one, it is only the bag face that we are left now to cherish.
This versatile bag face can be used as a floor piece or wall hanging, adding an elegant touch to any room. It can also be placed as a mat on a credenza, adding a touch of rustic charm and a bit of history to any space it resides in.
