Woven in the region of Caucasus mountains, this 130+ year old Kazak embodies the geometric and bold design and color that are traditional features of these rugs. Perhaps that is why they are some of the most widely collected and prized of the Caucasian rugs. Some of the earliest Kazaks woven date back as far as 1700 BC.
This piece has diamond tribal motifs all over the field on a dusty madder red ground with geometric borders in ivory as well as indigo blue ground.
This Kazak is quite worn, woven with vegetable dyed wool on a wool foundation. One area (pointed out in pic) has been mended.
We will ship a rug on the house for this old baby so it sits nice and snug.
