A late 19th Century, worn runner from the Caucasus mountains, this is a phenomenal example of the beauties that were woven by the Kazak tribe. This rug is distressed through time and was produced entirely from wool, with tribal motifs throughout, which are classical to these rugs, featuring the 8 pointed star motifs in the field and the fence of security on the edge guard, all sacred symbolism to the tribes people. Woven in old Russia (Caucasus region), north of Persia.
Please note, this old world rug is not perfectly straight and has varying width...character that is completely natural and expected of rugs of this age.
Handwoven, vegetable dyed wool rug, from the 1880s.
