A sacred piece of history, this lovely antique Kazak prayer rug, was handwoven around 1880 through the hands of tribal weavers in the Caucasus mountains. Against a brick red ground, the Mihrab is placed at one end of this little treasure with tribal motifs that include the ram’s horn, symbolizing strength and power, and the S-hook, used as protection against the evil eye. Wonderful tribal details can be seen throughout, giving this amazing prayer rug a rugged, yet reverent feel to it. Serrated leaves and wine cup motifs can be seen within the border band.
Woven with wool that was dyed using natural resources, such as plants, flowers, and vegetables, this beauty is raw and earthy, and on a wonderful wool foundation that gives it a floppy and soft handle. Every thread of this worn piece tells a story, carrying the weight of generations who have sought solace and connection through prayer. The gentle wear and faded colors reveal a profound journey of faith and spiritual devotion. This wonderful prayer rug will bring a sense of spirituality, charm, and beauty to any space it resides in.
