Rugs known to last longer than many of the other Persian are known as Bidjar rugs. Some call them the "iron rugs" of Persia. These rugs stand out for their heavy wool foundation, superior craftsmanship, beautiful art and well, the artisans that wove these pieces literally pounded down the knots...so each square inch of these rugs have packed a good amount of luxurious wool and are able to stand a great deal of abuse, for centuries! Thus, its durable construction is something you can count on.
This particular piece shows off strong and wide rust-y border framing a field that is narrower than we usually see in rugs. It has strong appeal and a great composition, with a Herati design on a navy blue ground. Those motifs you see in the main border are turtle elements. It's an impressive old rug with a lot of power.
