From the Western part of Persia, this antique Persian Hamadan rug is from one of the oldest cities of the country. It was hand knotted circa 1930 with old world, vegetable dyed wool. This rug has an all over Herati design (small scale fish surrounding flower heads) within the field and has been hand knotted on a cotton foundation.
It's a very weighted rug, due to the superior old world wool and it has remained in nice shape over the years with a healthy wool pile that is lanolin rich. You can vividly see the deep saturation of the natural dyes and the sheen of the precious wool. This lovely heirloom also displays amazing abrash and you can see it in the field of the rug, with the changes of the midnight to sailor blue. These are such lovely characteristics that speak the song and story of old rugs that we get to cherish.
Please note, there are some minor areas that have been patched, but if we don't point them out, you might not see them, so please check out the pics.
