Woven in the small village of Malayer circa 1900, this antique Persian rug has a deep and lustrous navy/midnight blue ground and is a highly decorative piece with superior quality vegetable dyed wool. The borders are magnificent and display a magnificent and subtle cornflower blue and shades vary to a beautiful aqua blue. The variations you see are natural and are examples of the different lots of vegetable dyed wool the weaver used.
Most of these rugs were produced in small sizes and by an individual weaver, but this one has a size that is a bit different than the norm, as it is an approx 5x8 size.
Malayers are known to be highly valued and in demand, due to their rich color, elaborate design, and high quality wool. This specific antique P e r s i a n has weight to it and happens to be a finer level of a rug, specifically, it's an Angeles Malayer.
Note: An area of this rug near the border was given some TLC and has an old repair, which is a rewoven area. This specific care is extraordinary and quiet a labor of love. Please see the pics with our shoes in it for reference.
