This beautiful antique 1920s Persian Mahal rug has a wonderful allover pattern that includes the herati design, which is also known as the fish design. With an array of colors ranging from ivory, Aegean blue, and rust red, the navy blue ground provides the perfect backdrop to the colorful intricate and small scale design that makes for easy styling. The corner spandrels add another layer of decorative ornamentation with a zigzag pattern symbolizing the life giving force of water.
The border bands continue the complementary color ways framing this amazing rug perfectly. Dainty paisley motifs can be seen in the smaller border bands. The wool used was dyed using organic resources, such as flowers, plants, and vegetables. This Persian is low pile with wear. Please see the top and bottom as well as the sides/selvedges that have earned their character and charm through time.
This beauty is a great size, has an awesome square-ish shape which is rare amongst old rugs in shape and will be a fabulous addition to any room in need of a soulful presence.
