With time softened natural dyes and its worn character from its great old age and history, this late 19th Century area rug is an amazing one, known as an Eagle Kazak.
Handwoven by tribal weavers in the Caucasus mountains, north of Persia, the nomads featured Eagle motifs in the field of this amazing piece that is woven on a wool foundation as well, which makes for a beautiful floppy handle. Most of the cultural symbols have their origins wrapping around folk mythology, folklore, religion, art and history. The eagle is a symbol of courage, wisdom and freedom to these mountain nomads. This is a special piece to many collectors and its size is superb as 5x8 antique rugs are harder to come by.
Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool. Worn. Please see detailed pics for full character and condition.
