This antique Khamseh rug, woven in Persia around 1900, is a captivating piece with deep tribal roots. The Khamseh people, known for their skillful weaving and distinct artistry, created this rug with symbolism, storytelling, and a unique palette that speaks to their rich cultural heritage. This piece is woven with vegetable-dyed wool, which has aged beautifully to an earthy, neutral tone accented by striking pops of yellow. The central diamond shaped medallions anchor the design of this piece, drawing the eye to it's rhythmic flow and you'll see numerous animal elements scattered throughout the rug, believed to symbolize protection, guidance and of course, connection to nature. Also woven into this amazing tribal rug are cypress trees, a symbol of resilience and eternity, these trees are abundant from Persia.
The hints of yellow on this piece are outstanding and it can help also identify the origins of this rug, as Khamseh rugs do feature this natural dye. This rug is beautifully worn, with pics illustrating its natural character earned through time. It's low pile and has a floppy handle and the natural vegetable dyes have mellowed over the years beautifully, adding to the old world charm of this Persian.
This will be a great addition to a space that needs anchoring of folk art and history. due to its nature and texture, this is not recommended for high traffic areas.
