This fabulous antique Persian Bidjar rug, crafted in the 1880s, is an indestructible heirloom - powerful, uncommon, and boldly its own. Known as the “Iron rugs of Persia,” Bidjars are the heaviest and most durable Persian rugs, woven with tightly packed knots of wool and an enduring wool foundation. This large rug, beautifully aged and softened with time, remains resilient. One half of the rug shows a bit more wear, indicating how the rug has lived and leaves us with true, timeworn character.
The main field bursts with a tribal geometry that breaks from the norm. Interwoven vines and stylized palmettes lend movement to the design. Handwoven with vegetable dyed wool, its deep hues have gracefully aged.
A striking series of border bands encase the rug, each with unique color combinations and motifs. The innermost narrow band showcases delicate floral rosettes, while the wider main border is drenched in rich navy, adorned with complex interlocking floral and vine patterns.
This is not your typical antique rug. Designed by the rug gods, it is pure poetry in wool - heavy, enduring, and woven to last lifetimes.
