Like a rare brilliant diamond, this gorgeous antique 1930’s Persian Sarouk rug is dazzling to the eyes and a dream. Sarouk rugs traditionally come with a red ground or if you’re lucky, a navy blue ground in the field, but to find a Sarouk rug with a royal blue ground, a deep French blue if you will, is a one in a million shot. This rug raises the brows of collectors for they know the rarity of its kind here.
This botanical beauty will never seize to amaze you. Diving into the color, we see natural abrash of the royal blue ground is stunning against the botanical motif in rose red, blush pink, light yellow-green, and chocolate brown. Pomegranates, palmettes, and floral sprays delightfully meander throughout the central field.
The intricate floral motif of the main border is a fantastic contrast to the openness of the central field. The superior handwoven wool was likely imported from Manchester, England, which is considered the deluxe edition of wool because it is lanolin rich and bestows a beautiful sheen. Each knot is densely packed and provides for a really stout and sturdy carpet, with pile and extreme luxuriousness you can truly feel. Organic resources such as vegetables, plants, flowers, and roots were used to dye the wool and all the variations you see of color - they represent the different batches of vegetable dyed wool that was used.
It undoubtedly took a few years to weave this magnificent Persian. This beauty has a weighted and stiffer handle, which means it is very durable and can handle high traffic areas. The exact size is 8’11 x 14’11.
A tycoon of a royal rug, it was likely commissioned for Persian royalty. If the rug had a name, it would be the Queen of Sheba. Considering what a prize this majestic rug is, it is at an insanely amazing value, and we take this opportunity to say thank you for shopping small and please tell your friends!
